I first met Marcus at The Blues Can in Calgary. I was traveling through town with my band after playing a week long residency at Blues On Whyte in Edmonton, AB. The next time through town, Marcus sat in with my band and played guitar for a set. At the time he was only about 19 or so! Fast forward a couple of years, and Marcus is calling me saying that he's on a "right of passage" road trip through America and is coming through Denver. We got together for coffee, then he came back to my place and we recorded an episode!(now copying from his website):Marcus Trummer’s combination of bluesy guitar playing, soulful vocals, and down-to-earth songwriting is a modern yet familiar take on the sounds of past decades. Dubbed “a precocious guitarist whose vocals possess a wise-beyond-his-years weariness" by the Calgary Herald, the Calgary, AB native has earned a reputation as a busy local performer since bursting onto the scene with his band in 2018. Following their debut release, These Roads - EP (2020), the Marcus Trummer Band were invited to perform as part of the National Music Centre’s Gala alongside the likes of Jann Arden and Corb Lund. Trummer was the recipient of the Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award at the 2019 YYC Music Awards. Supported by The Prophets of Music Foundation he recorded Running on My Own at OCL Studios in 2020. Inspired by the history of North American roots music, Calgary based Marcus Trummer Band’s eclectic brand of rock &amp; roll features a blend of passionate, bluesy guitar playing and down-to-earth, soul-inspired vocals. They have drawn comparisons to Chris Stapleton, The Black Crowes, and The Allman Brothers Band with a modern, yet familiar take on the timeless sounds of past decades. These stylings are front and centre on Marcus Trummer Band’s debut EP, These Roads (Nov. 2020). After bursting onto the scene in 2018, the Marcus Trummer Band has gone on to headline some of Calgary’s most respected venues including Ironwood Stage &amp; Grill, The King Eddy, and Mikey’s on 12th, where they sold out their single release show in September 2020. In 2019, they played sets at the Calgary International Blues Festival and Waynestock Music Festivals. Trummer has also had the opportunity to share stages with numerous other artists, both as a sideman on guitar and as a support act. Notable artists include, JUNO Award winners MonkeyJunk and Jim Byrnes. Marcus Trummer Band’s debut single, “Good Times” (2018) received radio support from X92.9 and CJSW, and helped earn Trummer the Zackariah and the Prophets Memorial Award at the 2019 YYC Music Awards. JUMP Music Initiative Podcast EP#3 with Marcus Trummer MARCUS TRUMMER  Inspired by the vibrant history of North American roots music, Calgary based singer-songwriter Marcus Trummer’s brand of blues and soul influenced rock &amp; roll features a sound built on riff-driven guitar work, held together by soulful vocals. Since forming in 2018 Marcus and his 4-piece band have taken their lively show to numerous venues around Alberta including appearances as part of the 2019 Calgary International Blues Festival, and the 2019 Waynestock Music Festival. They have also had a monthly performance residency at The Blues Can in Calgary since September 2018. Marcus has had the opportunity to support several established artists as well, including opening for Juno Award winners MonkeyJunk, and Jim Byrnes.   This summer Marcus was honored with the Calgary Blues Fest’s Randy Ouston Scholarship and also the Zackariah and the Prophets Emerging Artist Award at the YYC Music Awards. The band’s debut single Good Times, received radio support from CJSW, X92.9, &amp; CKUA and was nominated for Alternative Song of the Year at the 2019 YYCMAs.
