Mark Timmons is a 62 year old retired high school teacher from Brandon, MB. He started his running journey at age 50, when most people start thinking about retirement. He started with short “fitness” runs, gradually building up his distance to 10k, half marathons and then full marathons. After running the Boston Marathon in 2012, Mark discovered trail running and soon found himself completely immersed in trail running culture. His passion for trails and mountain running has taken him all over North America, Nepal, Iceland and Norway. It was an experience he had while running the Mount Everest Extreme Ultra in Nepal that inspired him to start writing, eventually resulting in the publication of his book, Man on the Run. Our latest Talking Sport is here and this time we have a new host, a new format and some new guests. Alan Hartnett is in the presenter’s chair and he is joined on the line by Laois footballers Mark Timmons and Sean O’Flynn. The trio chat about life in the new Coronavirus world and then Alan sets them a brand new challenge. Both Sean and Mark are asked the pick their best 7-aside teams - but the teams have to be made up of players that the other person player with. It leaves Sean having to choose between legends like Tom Kelly, Joe Higgins and Noel Garvan while Mark is forced to pick between a number of his current teammates! It’s all a bit of fun and some of the picks are not who you may have thought before.

Mark is also a motivational speaker who speaks to groups about problems (moving mountains) in their lives.
