Bruce Hallas, Cybersecurity Specialist: Changing the Definition of Cybersecurity

Bruce Hallas has been studying what makes people in an organisation follow security policy and really make it (security) part of their mindset and culture, similar to myself. He is author of ‘Re-thinking the Human Factor’ book &amp; Podcast.  And he takes lessons from behavioural science, neuroscience and psychology – ‘what it takes to be human’ and coaches organisations in this through his Security Awareness, Culture and Behaviour framework.  We chat about: · “If Security was a product would you buy it, and if you bought it, would you buy it again” is a phrase he uses to describe the point that security needs to pick up its game in terms of quality of the product for the audience and marketing of that product. · How we need to celebrate and encourage good security behaviour as well as chastising bad. We are fixated on behavioural change, but we neglect those complying with policy who may be the vast majority. · Understanding the objectives of stakeholders and their KPIs so that we can speak in their terms and add value to their dialogue, and  · Design principles that can be used to shape security programmes and nudge human behaviour
