Additionally, we have an exclusive interview with 'Rocketman' and 'Mary Poppins Returns' Re-recording Mixer, Mike Prestwood Smith.Mike has been working in the film industry since the 90's and has amassed a huge list of credits on films ranging from 'Casino Royale', which won him a BAFTA, 'Captain Phillips', which gained him an Oscar nomination, various 'Harry Potter' movies, 'The Danish Girl', and the 'Kingsman' films. More recently, he has been working on Disney's 'Dumbo', 'Aladdin', 'Mary Poppins Returns', and the Elton John biopic, 'Rocketman', which is released onto streaming services this week, from Saturday, 14th September 2019.Directed by Dexter Fletcher, 'Rocketman' is the epic musical story about Elton John’s breakthrough years. The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John. This inspirational story – set to Elton John’s most beloved songs and performed by star Taron Egerton – tells the universally relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture. Geektown Radio 218: 'Rocketman', 'Mary Poppins Returns' Re-recording Mixer Mike Prestwood Smith, TV News, Film News & UK Air Dates!

We chat with re-recording mixer Mike Prestwood Smith about his recent work on Rocketman and explore his creative process recreating the iconic songs that defined Elton John’s career and personal journey. Rocketman is a 2019 biographical musical film based on the life of musician Elton John. Directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Lee Hall, it stars Taron Egerton as John, with Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard. The film follows John's early days as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music to his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. The film is titled after John's 1972 song "Rocket Man". An Elton John biopic had been in development for almost two decades, with the project going through studios including Walt Disney Studios and Focus Features, directors including Michael Gracey, and actors including Tom Hardy and Justin Timberlake. After creative differences with Focus halted an initial production start in 2014, John took the project to Paramount Pictures, with Egerton and Fletcher signing on in April 2018. Principal photography began in August 2018 and was completed later that year.
