At one point, he and his co-witnesses were within 5 feet of the animal.  Astoundingly, they saw a 4 foot long hump of an anomalous animal in Willboro Bay, Lake Champlain. They were close enough to it to rule out  a rogue wave or wood debris. He co-authored a scientific abstract about the Lake Champlain hydrophone sounds for the Acoustical Society of America in 2010.
