Here’s my chat with Dennis Slater about the history of Canadian comic book creators from the prairies. This podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. Dennis is a jazz journalist for arts and entertainment magazines, museum curator at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, and was curator for an exhibit that dealt with censorship in Canada in the 1950s. That led to his interest in comic books during the world wars. My most recent chat with Dennis in 2018 focused on Canadian comic books during the first and second World Wars. For this interview, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the ‘Canadian Whites’ based on the March 1941 publication of Better Comics volume one #1, we focused efforts on the ‘Canadian White’ comic book creators from the Canadian prairies. Comic historian Dennis Slater discusses the impact of Canadian comics from the prairies

This week’s Open Mic Guest is Dennis Slater, president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought an abrupt change of focus for AEM leadership to assist members in navigating various challenges in nearly every aspect of their business. Slater says being declared as essential is an important aspect to their plight, but doesn’t resolve the uncertainty of product demand or delivery of essential supplies to maintain production. AEM has been vocal in support of assistance for the ethanol industry and others that are integral players in rural economic stability. AEM supports investment in infrastructure and is eager to hear from candidates as to how they plan to support both manufacturing and the rural economy.

 Whether it’s predictive maintenance, GPS guidance or any other technology that's making heavy equipment smarter, the first step in continuing to meet your customers’ needs and expectations is understanding what those needs and expectations are. So AEM partnered with the consulting firm McKinsey &amp; Co. to survey 1,409 construction contractors and farmers across North America. In this episode, Kevin Laczkowski and Asutosh Padhi,  senior partners from McKinsey, share their insights from the research.
