At an early age, Jim thought he wanted to be a lawyer resulting in him studying political science at Texas Tech University.  After spending a year in law school and 6 months interning in Washington DC he realized that he had to follow his passion which was Real Estate.  When it came to Real Estate, Jim would wake up excited about it, which was different than the route he was pursuing in the legal field. One of the key lessons learned while working in DC was the importance of relationships.  In all areas of life, relationships are the key to success. When he first began to pursue a career in Real Estate, he thought he wanted to be a Realtor.  However, it was his love of numbers, financial literacy, and understanding debt that lured him to the mortgage industry. One of the challenges today in the mortgage industry is financial literacy.  It is one of the many topics that is not taught in the education system.  Usually, individuals learn about finances through someone they know, who unfortunately might not be the best teacher for them. In the financial industry, a term that is often floated around is FICO score.  While some individuals stress the importance of the score, the only thing it truly represents is how well someone is able to manage their debt. Creating success in the mortgage industry or any field comes down to one thing.  Drive! As each and every person has the same 24 hours each day, drive is the one thing that separates the people who are highly successful from those who are not.  Drive will compel you to be more productive throughout the day instead of "busy". Along with drive, a key factor in determining how much success an individual will experience is the level of action they take on a daily basis.   It is better for an action to be 70% complete and put into motion, rather than waiting for it to be perfect with 0% as a result. The One Thing Jim recommends is that when you know what you want to do you have to show up and give it everything you got.  It doesn't matter where you are in life, or where you came from, it is up to you to make it happen.  Show up every day, as that is what will make the difference.
