Barbara Gaul was murdered with a shotgun blast in the car park of the Black Lion hotel, which is virtually the first building you come across when entering Brighton on the A23 road from London. Roy and Keith Edgeler from the East End of London were convicted of the murder which was  a contract killing, although the Edgeler brothers were too frightened to say who had organised the hit.
