During an off-the-cuff interview with Ridin Durty Radio I was asked two very important questions:1️⃣ Have you ever had a client where you said, “I don’t care who you are or what situation you’re in, I will never ever represent you again.”?2️⃣ How important to you, as an attorney, is it to know 100% that you’re representing a client who is telling the truth?The fact is that most lawyers wouldn’t dare to answer these questions honestly in a public setting with thousands of listeners, but I had no problem doing it! 🙌🏻🔥Check out my answers here 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻Have you ever had a client for whom you said, “I don’t care who you are or what situation you are in, I will never represent you again.”?To put it bluntly, YES! Look, our clients are like the clients or customers in any other business. Whether you call them “clients”, “customers”, or even radio advertisers for someone like you, they all have their own ideas.The clients who like to tell me how to do my job are not my favorite clients. The clients who want to argue with everything you do are not my favorite clients. The clients who want to do all of that and then not pay are also not my favorite clients.So, yes, I have had many people who were my clients for years and years and, after a while, it just wasn’t worth the hassle anymore. I do not need the intrusion into my professional life that these types of clients represent.I think every lawyer, probably on the planet, has a client who they would refuse to represent in the future. Many of these types of clients are those who also tend to not tell the truth and try to hide things. A lot of people have even asked me if I would represent Donald Trump if he called me to represent him. He would be the kind of guy who I’d refuse to represent because he doesn’t tell the truth.That was going to be my next question. How important to you, as an attorney, is it to know 100% that you are representing a client who is telling you the truth?Well, I always impress upon my clients that their lawyer is their best friend regarding the matter that they’re seeking counsel on. Because their lawyer is their best friend and because everything that a client tells his lawyer is confidential, there is no reason to obfuscate, bend the truth, or leave certain material facts out of the story that they are going to tell me.So, I try to nip that in the butt right away. I tell them that, if I do not know the truth about everything when we get into court and something comes out that you did not tell me, or you told me the opposite of what the truth is, it will be the death knell of their case. If I find out that my client has lied to me or lied to the court, then that is going to cause me to withdraw as their legal representation.

Howard Wolf has been involved with the cleaning and restoration industries since 1984. He has worked his way through a series of progressively more responsible positions in the industry and has responded to large losses since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Mr. Wolf has also always been deeply involved in the industry as a volunteer, currently, he is the Chairman of the IICRC Standards Committee, an accredited ANSI writing body.     In 2001 Mr. Wolf started HW3 Group, LLC, a firm committed to serving the restoration industry. HW3 Group is a firm that supports the disaster restoration industry with management, administration, claim preparation, logistics, dispute resolution, and technical expert consulting.     Monica Aquino is the Managing Partner of HW3 Group, LLC. She has been involved in the claims preparation and claims management industry since 1999. She began as an analyst and claims coordinator, and then moved into claim management and development of programs for large clients. Monica has managed claims for some of the largest property claims in the country and has particular expertise in the hospitality, complex multi-tenant and large retail industries.     Monica has managed claims with values up to and exceeding $500M. She leads teams in preparing claims analyses for various aspects of the claim, interfaces closely with clients to understand loss damages/business needs and collaborates with insurer representatives to present claims and request partial payments until final settlement is negotiated. Her perspective on these issues is one our listeners will appreciate and learn from.

This week we LEARN MORE from the IICRC Standards Chair Mr. Howard Wolf and Mili Washington about why another round is necessary, what changes we can anticipate and more.    Howard Wolf has been involved with the cleaning and restoration industries since 1984. He has extensive disaster and large project experience, with particular expertise in institutional, industrial and hospitality facilities. In 2001, Mr. Wolf started HW3 Group, LLC, a firm committed to serving the restoration industry in the areas of investigation, research, marketing, operations, field management and project management. Between 2002 and 2004, Mr. Wolf sold all contracting businesses, keeping his consulting business and started an education and technical support institution, which was merged to become the Commercial Drying and Restoration Institute in 2009. Currently, he is the Chairman of the IICRC Standards Committee and Chairman of the S500 4th edition committee.     Mili Washington has been The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) Standards Director since June 2011. Her focus has been to streamline the standards development process and strategy at the IICRC, work toward American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approval for new and revised ANSI/IICRC standards, and use more digital tools to make virtual collaboration really come to life. For the past eight years, Washington has focused her work in the area of standards development and management. In her previous role as manager of standards and guidelines for the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), she oversaw three ANSI accredited standards committees that developed 20 ANSI standards for the occupational health and safety profession.
