Dr. Erin Pettit, Glaciologist of Oregon State University, just back from Antarctica, talks about a particular ice shelf she’s been monitoring for many years, and how it is changing, as well as describing what’s happening to a glacier on Washington’s Mt. Baker. Dr. Pettit is the founder of Inspiring Girls Expeditions which brings girls from all backgrounds on expeditions. While there are still some folks who refuse to accept that human activity contributes to climate/atmospheric change, it’s clear that human activity of dumping chemicals and fumes into the atmosphere does have an effect. It is also clear that the climate of the Earth is changing. Glaciers, which have provided water to many societies for thousands of years, are melting away. What will happen when the glaciers are gone?
