Benedetta Argentieri is an independent journalist and documentary director. Since 2014 she has been focusing on Iraq and Syria, she covered the ongoing conflict and the feminist struggles with feature articles and feature-length documentaries. Her work has appeared in several international publications, including Reuters, The Sunday Times, Daily Beast, and Sunday Telegraph. In 2019, she co-authored “Io non sono Islam” (I am not Islam), a graphic novel inspired by the story of Islam Mitat a young Moroccan woman whose husband tricked her into the Islamic State. The book is in Italian, and it was published by Salani Nostalgia.In 2018 she directed "I am the Revolution" a documentary about three women fighting for freedom and gender equality in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Rojava North-East Syria. The film which was extremelly well received,  was shown in dozens of festivals around the world, and distributed for tv and educational purposes. In 2016 she co-directed with Bruno Chiaravalloti and Claudio Jampaglia the documentary "Our War", which tells the story of international fighters joining the ranks of YPG in Syria fighting against ISIS, which premiered at the 73 Venice Film Festival. In 2013 she co-produced "Capulcu-Voices of Gezi", a documentary about the revolt that occurred in Gezi Park in Istanbul, Turkey. The film won the Amnesty International award. Previously she worked as a staff writer at Corriere della Sera, the leading Italian newspaper. Argentieri is also a  public speaker, she was also invited to give a talk about “women in war” at the Teld Talk X in Milan. In 2014, she obtained an MA in Journalism, with a concentration in politics, from Columbia University in New York.

The film is called "I Am The Revolution" and it follows three females in the Middle East fighting for gender equality in very different ways. One of these women is a politician, one a commander in the Syrian Democratic Army, and another who runs shelters for abused women. This leads to a greater discussion on feminism at large, and what true progress in a society is defined by. The film premieres November 15th at Cinepolis Chelsea, and is a part of the Doc NYC film festival. We hope that you join us, as we'll all be in attendance along with nearly everyone involved in making the film. I'm excited to see the finished product!Benni also had the honor of giving a Ted Talk in Milan regarding the film, and she discusses the anxiety of speaking in front of such a large audience.
