Dr. Gloria Thomas Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at North Carolina State University and the author of a CDC-recommended advance care planning resource entitled, “The African-American Spiritual and Ethical Guide to End-of-Life Care: What Y’all Gon’ Do With Me?” She is the founder of Heart Tones™, an encouragement ministry that creates custom inspirational gifts and bereavement resources for caregivers. Dr. Anderson works primarily with African-American faith communities on end-of-life planning and education. She is also a member of the Interfaith and Diversity workgroup at C-TAC.

Dr. Gloria Thomas (Director of UNC Women's Center) and Danita Mason-Hogans (Oral Historian at Duke Center for Documentary Studies) respond to narratives captured by the Southern Oral History Program--stories of African Americans voting for the first time in the South, during the 1960s, reveal a determination to vote that resonates today.

Keeping an open mind is one of the things that has been critical to the successes of Dr. Gloria Thomas.  A series of professional and personal events led her back to her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she has expanded her STEM wings and now serves as the Director of the Center for Academic Success at Louisiana State University. This superwoman mom is a prime example of how marketable and valuable a STEM degree is.  She is also a member of a distinct group of scientists who have worked in all three major career sectors--industry, government, and academe.  She shares how she is able to use those highly trained critical and analytical thinking skills in her role.
