Wellbeing &amp; VitalityThis week I share with you my recent guest appearance on Leadership Luminaries, expertly hosted by Michael Banks.We spend a lot of time working, in fact the average full-time employee works around 37 hours every week.  We dedicate much of our awake time and energy to work.  So why allegedly do only 27% of people feel their employer really cares about their overall wellbeing?  What are we doing wrong and how can we fix it? My conversation with Michael Banks explores an expanded view of organisational wellbeing and vitality.   Going beyond the more formulaic and programmatic approach to this important, and highly relevant topic, I suggest that well-being is more of a ‘state’ than a set of ‘one size fits all’ best practices. I talk about the organisational diagnostic model I co-designed with Professor Paul Tosey of Surrey University.  It’s called the Seven Energy Levels and is based upon the Hindu and Buddhist system of seven chakras or energy centres.  In this way a ‘well being and vitality journey’ can be developed that is tailored to each unique organisation. Born in the UK, after attending university Michael ran a community center in south London working with criminalized Jamaican youth. He then had a transformational experience at age 25 before being part of a controversial but successful business organization whose mission was to transform society. In 1989 Michael moved to the USA  where he became a partner in America’s number one Executive Coaching firm in 1996. Eventually he branched out on his own and in 2014 was given a kidney by his beloved partner Karin. He published a book based on that experience “Gotta Kidney: A Journey Through Fear To Hope And Beyond”. Three years ago Michael returned to the UK and now lives in a small village in the rural county of Norfolk with Karin and their two Yorkshire Terriers, Freddie and Rana.
