Episode 054: Malibu Wine Safaris | Malibu Wine Hikes | Malibu Wines | Roniet Berci – Dir. of Marketing and PR | The Semler Family | Amazing Saddlerock Ranch Back in the late 70’s, wildfires ravaged the Malibu hills and canyon area.  The Semler Family came in just after that and purchased about 1,000 acres in the Malibu hills, known as The Saddlerock Ranch.  They moved the family onto the property and started the business of horse boarding and avocado growing and distribution.  Well into the 1980’s, drought conditions affected the avocado production and the family decided to begin growing vines on the property, beginning to build out what is now the Malibu wine country.  Currently there are about 72 acres of vineyards on the property and a hugely successful Malibu Wines business. The Semlar’s have 9 children, some of which are continually forming new incredible businesses on the Ranch for us all to enjoy. One of the businesses is the Malibu Wine Safari, where folks can be driven on about a 90 minute tour of the exotic animal wildlife, witness the incredible scenery and vineyards, all while sipping their favorite wine.  There are amazing species of animals in their gorgeous natural habitats, such as camels, alpacas, bison, and a giraffe.  There is nothing like it! Another is the Malibu Wine Hikes.  A bit slower paced walking tour of the vineyards, the Ranch, and the animals. Saddlerock Ranch itself has incredible event locations for weddings, corporate function, anything you can imagine.  The gorgeous property, its vineyard and natural landscape, serving as the dream-like back drop. AND, all of this wonder is right in our back yard in the Malibu hills.  20 minutes from just about everywhere out here. The Malibu Wines also has tasting rooms, 1 of which is at the Four Seasons Hotel right here in Westlake Village and another on the Queen Mary.
