Welcome to the Ink and Paint Folk podcast- a look at animation through the women and non-binary folk who make it! Hosted by Kira Rodrigues and Cassie Soliday   Today’s guest is Veteran Creative Producer and CEO of Frogbot Films, Monica Lago-Kaytis! She’s worked in the animation industry for over 25 years, 23 of them with the famed Walt Disney Feature Animation where she started as a production assistant on Pocahontas. Since then, she’s climbed the production ranks managing and producing some of your favorite Disney films such as Hercules, Wreck-It Ralph, and Zootopia… okay, so those are a few of my personal favorites! But she was never looking to break into animation, it was a pleasant surprise! Growing up with an artsy mother, Monica was used to managing and making space for artists. Today, she shares her personal experiences, struggles, and how she evolved to the person she is today and gathered the courage to break away from the biggest animation studio to start her own production company, Frogbot Films.    She’s also an active mentor volunteer and the president of the non-profit organization, Rise Up Animation, which we also chat about in the ep! Here at Alicyn’s Wonderland, we want to show our support to the BIPOC community. Just like this week’s guest. Monica Lago-Kaytis, CEO and producer at Frogbot Films, talks to us about her new venture as co-founder of Rise Up Animation. Rise Up Animation is all about giving the members of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community an equal chance at a career in animation. This is especially relevant now, as the pandemic has caused even more hate against our brothers and sisters of color. Monica, together with 3 other co-founders, established this nonprofit organization to offer free advice, portfolio and resume feedback, and even mentorship. As someone who has mentored a few talents, I think this episode hit really close to home.
