Today we’re joined by Brian Larrabee, the founder of Good City Mentors, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that partners high-achieving professionals and creatives with struggling high-schools through hourly mentor sessions with their students.  This community-based initiative has sprouted into a well-oiled machine, attracting some of the world’s biggest brands to invest in the future generation of heroes. Today, they have 400 volunteers spread across 15 schools, and they’re growing stronger every day. We can’t wait to get involved, and we hope the feeling is mutual! 41. Becoming a Good City Mentor with Brian Larrabee

Brian Larrabee leads Good City Mentors and is considered a leader in building strategic community partnerships for social good. In 2014, after meeting students from a continuation high school in south Los Angeles, he brought in 35 inspiring friends and began what is now Good City Mentors. Today, Good City Mentors has over 300 mentors, and has seen graduation rates triple since their inception. Good City Mentors was awarded as one of LA’s top emerging nonprofits for 2018 and is recognized as a leader in high school based mentoring.   Brian attended Southern New Hampshire University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the Business Student of the Year. He was the school’s first ever NCAA Academic All-American and signed a professional basketball contract to play in Porto, Portugal.    Brian resides in Mar Vista, CA with his wife and baby boy, Camden.   In this episode, we dive into the power of mentorship, the importance of relationships, how to improve relational capacity, the importance of failure and experiences, the hero’s journey, and much more.   For the full show notes,   theupandcomersshow.com/episodes/brian
