An 'icon' is much more known than a celebrity. They are someone who leaves a mark on history. They have a strong depth of significance. They are a person who is well known, and who people look up to. Jayne Kennedy Overton embodies that description breaking barriers when she became the first woman of color in the late 70s to host THE NFL on CBS, a national sports show, on what Bob Costas credited as being "the template for modern studio shows." The ease of her manner as an interviewer, whether talking to a young Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Joe Namath, or Muhammad Ali, along with a sincere intimacy in her tone, body language, and steady eye contact, was completely disarming. Managing to demonstrate both knowledge of subject while projecting the ability to not take herself too seriously, this Ohio-raised former beauty queen is undeniably charismatic.  Recently, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC inducted Jayne into the annuls of media pioneers, honoring her alongside luminaries, Diahann Carroll, Nat King Cole, Nichelle Nichols, The Supremes, and Don Cornelius. Next to the wall with the honorees is a quote from Oprah Winfrey “we used to gather around the tv and jump up and down, ‘colored people on tv, colored people on tv.'” Raising her daughters, Jayne has been quiet for awhile but as she begins "Jayne 2.0", we sat down to reflect on Jayne's roots and journey as a trailblazer, her convictions, milestones, motherhood, as well as what's ahead.  Join me, your host Brad Johnson, at the corner table! Jayne Kennedy Overton (née Harrison; October 27, 1951) is an American television personality, actress, model, a corporate spokeswoman, producer, writer, public speaker, philanthropist, beauty pageant titleholder and sports broadcaster. Kennedy won a 1982 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture award for her performance as Julie Winters in the 1981 film Body and Soul co-starring alongside her then–husband Leon Isaac Kennedy.Kennedy won the NAACP Theater Award for Best Producer along with her current husband Bill Overton for their production of the highly acclaimed staged musical, The Journey of the African American. Kennedy is also an Emmy Award winner for her coverage of the Rose Parade and was nominated for an Emmy for her coverage of the news feature on soldiers on the DMZ in South Korea for NBC’s Speak Up America in 1980. Ebony Magazine announced as “One of the 20 Greatest Sex Symbols of the 20th Century,” and in the 1980s, Coca Cola USA named Jayne Kennedy “The Most Admired Black Woman in America”.

She was the first African-American and one of the first female sports broadcasters and destroyed the myth that women couldn’t make it in the world of sports broadcasting, We can't wait to talk to her.In 2015, she launched IT'S A MOTHER DAUGHTER THING!  The concept behind the campaign focuses on her work with each of her daughters strengthening and renewing her dedication to improve not only their footing in life but bettering the status of her communities as well.Our second powerful guest on the show is Ralph Cindrich who played for the NFL’s New England Patriots, Houston Oilers and Denver Broncos. In the 1980s he became one of the pro game’s most prominent player agents. Soon he was ranked among the most powerful people in sports. USA Today called Cindrich “the undisputed free-agent champ.” His pioneering work for left tackle Will Wolford was featured in Michael Lewis’s The Blind Side. Today he represents several second-generation clients, teaches sports-law classes and serves as an expert witness in multimillion-dollar labor cases.
