The Second Arrangement is the title of a Steely Dan song that was once accidentally erased by a studio tech during the band’s Gaucho sessions and thought never to be heard again.  It has been the subject of lore amongst Steely Dan fans for decades, until bootlegs and samples of demos began finding their way onto the internet, which gave fans an idea as to what this lost, Gaucho-era track actually sounded like.  In 2011, the band performed the track live during a Rarities Night show at the Beacon Theater in New York, which sparked the imaginations of fans, not to mention musicians such as Scott Sheriff, an ardent Steely Dan fan who fronts arguably the best Steely Dan tribute band, 12 Against Nature.  Scott, along with several talented studio musicians in Nashville, decided to resurrect The Second Arrangement, and recently released a video version of the completed song, which has already gained worldwide attention.  Here to discuss the momentum behind recreating this track is Scott Sheriff.

Scott grew up in a musical family. His dad played stand up bass in a big band, and could also play a little piano by ear. His mother is a skilled pianist and organist. Put those genes together and you've got a recipe for a unique blend of traditional musical sensibilities, mixed with intuitive gifts for hearing and comprehending all facets of the musical picture.Scott fought traditional piano lessons, because he didn't like to read music. When his teacher would play a piece before he learned it, he always had an easier time getting motivated to work on it, especially if it was pleasing to his ears. After quitting traditional lessons, Scott spent a few years pursuing the normal pre-teen stuff, baseball, basketball, video games, etc. It's important to mention that as a kid he was definitely also a radio junkie.Scott had the privilege of working with some incredibly talented artists in his career. In the past he worked with Bob Carlisle, Allies, Susan Ashton, Mark Schultz, and Steven Curtis Chapman. More recently, he was the Musical Director and keyboardist for Kenny Loggins, and still occasionally plays concerts with him. Scott played several shows with Richard Marx, and currently is touring with Carrie Underwood. Scott also works as a musical engraver. My most notable clients are Kelly Clarkson and David Foster. Though each individual plan will differ, there are some universal habits that, when incorporated into a regular routine, can contribute to overall health.  What are these habits that we should be claiming as part of our “habit refresh”?  Our guest this week is a Chiropractor who takes a holistic view of the health of his patients, and focuses on all the ways to help them make small changes that can bring more focus to their health and wellness. Tune in as we get inspired to bring new habits into our lives in the new year! Dr. Scott Sheriff was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. After living for a time in Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Chicago, he returned to Racine to be closer to his family. On sunny afternoons, you might find him running the paths along the lakefront, walking his dog, local parks or hanging out with friends at almost any coffee shop. Dr. Sheriff is an active member of the Racine community. He volunteers his time and serves on several committees at the HOPES Center, an organization that works diligently to help mentally ill and homeless people get back on their feet. Dr. Sheriff studied biology and chemistry at UW-Parkside, graduating with a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology in 1998. He then worked at UCLA studying prostate cancer and at the Medical College of Wisconsin studying the herpes virus. In 2003, Dr. Sheriff witnessed the profound effect that chiropractic care had on the healing of a close friend after an automobile accident. He realized that his true calling was to work one-on-one with people – naturally and safely – to help their bodies heal from pain. So, he enrolled in the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. He earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2007. Since that time, he has pursued further education in nutrition, functional rehabilitation, working with athletes and biomechanics of the foot.
