And that, insists the cartoonist and writer Zach Weinersmith, is precisely Beowulf's appeal: Its richness opens the door to endless interpretation. Listen as the author of Bea Wolf, a graphic novel for children based on the Old English poem, speaks with EconTalk's Russ Roberts about poetry in general, Beowulf in particular, whether we should require students to memorize poems, and the value of stories for children even without a moral lesson.

Das Gespräch mit Bea Wolf aus der Leipziger Barcelona-Tapas Bar hat mein Herz sehr berührt. Wir saßen uns gegenüber in ihrem Restaurant, das nun gerade ein Laden geworden ist und ein virtueller Dancefloor und noch viel mehr. Wir sprechen darüber, was sie als Quereinsteigerin seit 22 Jahren bewegt, mit der Bar ein verlängertes Wohnzimmer zu schaffen, bei den Menschen zu sein, sie anzufeuern und ihre Wünsche zu erfüllen. Es geht darum, dass Glück für Bea bedeutet, die Verbindung zu den Menschen zu halten, auch in dieser Zeit und dass sie Kraft daraus schöpft, gemeinsam mit ihrem Team Netze zu knüpfen, um trotz aller Widrigkeiten weiterzumachen. Es ist ein Appell an uns alle, dass wir uns erinnern, was wir alles schon geschafft haben und dass es einen Frühling geben wird, in dem wir wieder tanzen werden.
