Gina Herrera is a mixed-media artist residing in California. A 25-year veteran of the Navy, Army and Air Force, she received her BFA in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During her studies, she was deployed overseas in support of several war contingencies with the Armed Forces. Once her final tour was complete, she obtained her MFA in Studio Arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Herrera has exhibited extensively throughout California and nationally. She has been privileged to receive recognition for her work through various grants and has been published in various media including Peacock TV and Hulu. Follow her here.

#82  Gina Herrera works in healthcare so she immediately knew right away the the lump she felt in her breast was likely cancer.  She could tell because she had literally done the same exam on thousands of women and she knew the difference in the feel of the lump likely pointed to cancer.  Unfortunately, she was correct.  She had breast cancer. Gina marshaled all of her energy and resources toward beating the breast cancer diagnosis.  She did not rely on her faith to get her through as she will admit, she wasn't practicing her faith with any consistency.  She did however prevail over the cancer and saw it fully retreat into remission. Unfortunately, cancer was not done with Gina.  She was hit with another diagnosis of cancer years later.  Not the same as before, but nonetheless a worrisome diagnosis.  This time however, Gina would rely heavily on her FAITH to help her battle cancer for the second time.
