On today’s Happening in Homer segment: Village mayor Darren “Hal” McCabe discussed the ongoing issue of trash collection. Residents are still leaving out overflowing cans and McCabe said the DPW will no longer take care of rejected loads left behind by Syracuse Haulers. Other issues have come up with multi-dwelling rental properties, which are legally considered ‘commercial’ and must contract their own services for waste/recycling. McCabe also elaborated on the village’s approach to managing legalized marijuana. “We are going to allow dispensaries, but no businesses that offer on-site consumption like cafes,” McCabe told WXHC. “It’s an enormous amount of tax revenue that goes right to municipalities. We could potentially lower taxes by a significant amount.” Finally, the mayor explained a slight hitch in the current demolition phase of the Route 11 linear park project. National Grid found contaminants that now require remediation in the East River running along the route. Press play below:
