Give Us Time Podcast: Mark Ormrod During the episode we discuss his life, from joining the Royal Marines at 17 to Christmas Eve 2007 when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device during an operational tour to Afghanistan, resulting in the loss of both legs above the knee and his right arm. This injury did need stop him though, after leaving the military he has gone on to do some remarkable achievements. We discuss his recovery and how he has gone on to win gold medals at the Invictus Games and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. We discuss his military career from joining Royal Engineers to going on to pass Special Forces selection and becoming one of the first Army soldiers to join the Special Boat Service (SBS). We also discuss his life after the military and how he went onto become a double World Record Holder when he cycled the entire 14,000-mile length of the Pan-American Highway (PAH), the longest motorable road in the world. In doing so he became the fastest person to cycle the length of South America and completed fastest cycle journey of the Pan American Highway smashing the former world record by 17 days and became the first person ever to make the journey in under 100 days. He bought an old classic yacht with his wife, sailed off into the North Atlantic to help heal. He went onto start his own Charity “The Mountain Way” which helps Soldiers with PTSD.
