This week we go all the way to north eastern Iowa, right to the bridge Iowa's nose to talk to Nicole Stecklein. Nicole is an Asgrow/Dekalb agronomist covering the far northeastern corner of the state. Not only is she a talented agronomist, but her passion for agronomy really shines as we talk agronomy in her neck of the woods.

Here are a few tips Nicole recommends for those striving to achieve a work life balance while working in the agriculture industry.  Don’t think you’re doing a bad job. — There’s a lot of pressure on parents right now to constantly be present. Children can do well without their parents being there 100 percent of the time. They need to be able to build relationships with other people besides their parents and they need to feel secure even when their parents are not around. Don’t feel guilty if you are working on yourself and your career because that is important, too. Not everything’s going to be perfect — When children are young, that’s when you really want to put in a lot of time, but that’s also usually when you’re trying to advance your career. Be willing to say no. Career is important. Make sure you’re not feeling guilty for not being home with your kids but also make sure you’re not feeling guilty for not being at work. The great thing about agriculture is that every team that I’ve been on says family comes first.
