In June 2019, the eyes of the world turned to Hong Kong, as a mass protest movement erupted in defiance of Beijing.  Initially catalysed by the introduction of an extradition bill into the Hong Kong Legislative Council, the movement soon came to embrace a set of much wider demands.  Some on the left quickly dismissed it as a creature of Western interests, while others recognised the importance of solidarity with a pro-democracy movement.  To get to the truth of what the Hong Kong protests were about, and what the situation is now, Alex Whisson spoke to writer and activist Au Loong Yu.

Quando giovedì 28 maggio il Lianghui ha approvato la legge sulla sicurezza nazionale per Hong Kong, molti governi occidentali si sono affrettati a minacciare ritorsioni contro Pechino, mentre nelle strade dell'ex colonia britannica si tornava a protestare.Ma in realtà questo clima non nasce ieri e non nasce nemmeno nel 2019, l'anno delle grandi proteste, prima che la stanchezza del movimento e la pandemia svuotassero le piazze.Tra passato e presente, ma soprattutto con un occhio alle prospettive di questi movimenti, siamo tornati a parlare con Au Loong Yu, voce e mente storica della sinistra hongkongese, in piazza anche in questi giorni nonostante un clima sempre più pesante.PLAYLIST- 新青年理髮廳 - 敢動- Leo王 - 快樂的甘蔗人
