Fitness and being healthy are two things that you would say are inextricably linked with one another. If you are fit, you are healthy and if you are healthy, you are fit. Alas, neither of those are things that necessarily go hand in hand. Our guest this week, Wayne Kaminsky, is a man who understands this all too well. Wayne is a man who sees himself as a constant work in progress and has always experimented with his career, lifestyle and health. Pushing the physical and mental limits, are traits that have taught him many life lessons. Wayne was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was always told by his parents that he could achieve whatever he set his mind to. Something which he would remember his whole life. After his first assessment as a Graphic Designer, his University suggested he choose a different career! In true Wayne spirit, he challenged his lecturers with their teaching methods and styles, and confidently let them know that he would make it in the industry. Years later, he achieved the Creative Director level, while working in London. In 2009-2010, he was competing in every endurance event he could find. A 12-hour day of training was nothing for him and he could easily categorise himself in the top 1% of the world when it came to being physically fit. However, despite being incredibly fit, he was still slightly overweight, he was super sick and on 14 courses of antibiotics over a 2 year period. His focus was non-existent, he was burnt out, he had adult ADHD, and to top it off he was getting divorced too. His dieticians advice to him was to eat fewer calories...There was no focus on the quality of the calories.   So Wayne did what he does best and decided to enter Masterchef, South Africa. He would spend his time cooking, 4 to 5 versions, of one meal in a night, or 60-70 portions of meals on the weekends. To master the trade he was prepared to do the 10,000 hours it supposedly takes.  After living on his own food for only 3 weeks, he had lost the extra weight he was carrying, he stopped taking all the antibiotics he had been on, and he experienced amazing energy and focus. So he decided to launch his business, called FitChef. As Wayne says, “All diets fail for one main reason, people don’t have good food available right now!” So FitChef lives by the ethos of being a 100% clean brand that makes amazing food easily available. Wayne is a man you can only admire because of his attitude of not being afraid to try new things. Hard work, sacrifice, experimentation and vision, have manifested a set of skills that have allowed him to create and cultivate a food business that literally changes people’s lives. Wayne also shares his best bits of advice on how to eat well, why your microbiome and bacteria are things that you need to become seriously interested in, and also how he sets goals and sticks to them.
