On today’s episode I am interviewing my long-time friend Torrey Roberts. Torrey is wife to Adam and Mama to two adorable sons. She also works at a non-profit ministry in south Florida called Sheridan House Family Ministries. You’ll hear more about that in this episode. Torrey was always sort of a “big sister” role model for me and later on we became friends as we found ourselves in similar life situations: living in south FL as wives and moms and people who worked in full-time ministry. I absolutely love her wisdom in this episode and as you’ll hear, she’s “mothered” way more kids than just her own! Enjoy my conversation with my friend Torrey.

Episode 015: Torrey Roberts

The Difference Between Determined And Rebellious Both types of child can seem similar but the difference may be in the root of what they want.Â  A determined child is passionate for what they want.Â  The strong willed child may fight to get their way.Â  This is pride coming out, they will battle for their way regardless.Â  They donâ€™t like being told no.Â  Another type of child is the angry child; they battle authority because they are angry.Â  When dealing with toddlers there may be some overlap of these three just from the natural push back of that age.Â  As children get older and training kicks in the determined childâ€™s passion can be seen for what it is.Â  Passion for things they believe in.Â  Like we said yesterday, we need to help our child learn to channel that good quality and not get discouraged. The trained, determined child will be the child/teen who wonâ€™t easily quit or give up, can endure failures and come back, and isnâ€™t afraid to risk failure. Determination at its best is doing your part, staying with it, never quitting and then trusting God for the results. This is what we want to instill in our children.
