Terrance J. O’Malley founded TJO Management in 2018 to provide consulting services and market intelligence to the investment management industry. Throughout his 25-year career, Terrance has served firms as both a trusted outside adviser and as a key in-house executive. Drawing on this experience, he provides a variety of consulting services and lends his judgment to complex problems faced by the industry’s top firms. Terrance also hosts Operational Leaders, a podcast he created in 2019. The podcast features leaders and innovators responsible for “the business of running an investment management business”. In addition, he publishes a popular blog focusing on issues facing investment management firms. Terrance provides his consulting services and market intelligence based on the full range of his career experience which includes: • Senior in-house executive serving as Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Blue Ridge Capital, at its peak a pre-eminent multi-billion dollar hedge fund firm. • Partner at law firms Schulte Roth &amp; Zabel and Fried Frank, as well associate at Davis Polk &amp; Wardwell, focusing on regulatory matters for investment management clients. • Adviser to foreign governments – working on USAID capital markets projects in Russia, Ukraine and India. • SEC enforcement attorney (while simultaneously attending an evening MBA program). Terrance has been an active participant in the investment management community. He has served in a variety of leadership positions ranging from industry initiatives to editorial boards to association committees, including the MFA’s Chief Operating Officer Forum. He has also published dozens of articles and co-authored two influential books: The Insider’s Guide to Hedge Funds: Successfully Managing the Middle and Back Office and the Investment Adviser’s Legal and Compliance Guide. In addition, he has spoken frequently at industry conferences and been quoted in leading industry publications. Terrance hails from Pennsylvania where he grew up on the border of suburbia and farm country. This environment fostered a life-long curiosity of how things work – from local manufacturing to agriculture, history to economics, and culture to sports. His path led to Wall Street where Terrance developed a passion for the investment management industry.
