My guest for The Happy Hour # 252 is Darbie Angell. Darbie describes herself as a confident girl entertaining with style and consumed with wanderlust. At 20 weeks pregnant and put on bed rest, Darbie started her luxury dinnerware business. Darbie's products can be found in Macy's, Bed Bath and Beyond, Dillard's, Bloomies, Kendra Scott stores, Amazon, and many more. Darbie's company also employs 3,000 women artisans in underdeveloped countries, and her main goal is to impact the world one plate at a time! Today I welcome Darbie Angell, creator/designer/founder of Darbie Angell, a brand icon and maker of bold and fashionable dinnerware. Darbie started her company without a single contact in the industry. While she was working at one of the largest law firms in the country she went into labor with her daughter when she was five months pregnant. It was then that Darbie was put on bed rest for four months, and while on bed rest, she decided that she wanted to start a company by combining her passion to impact the world with her knowledge in design.  The real startup story of Darbie Angell is that Darbie wanted to show her soon-to-be daughter how to dare to dream big!  Darbie’s company was started under very unusual circumstances - on bed rest, without the support of her ex-husband, with no business mentoring, and with no initial capital to fund her business. However, her passion and her purpose - her “why” - fueled her, and she refused to let fear hold her back. As she says, “You have to be willing to face your fear and find your way through it.” That’s exactly what she did. This is Darbie Angell’s captivating startup story. DARBIE ANGELL’S STORY  I started my company without a single contact in the industry. I was working at one of the largest law firms in the country and went into labor with my daughter when I was five months pregnant. I was put on bed rest for four months and decided I wanted to start a company by combining my passion to impact the world with my knowledge in design. I wanted to show my soon-to-be daughter how to dare to dream big! That bold step to live fully is what led me to create this company, which has since become my life’s work.  With zero capital to put towards the brand, I found a man in Israel that sold me diamonds at cost. I then turned around and sold them to women around the world. This venture allowed me to create my first product samples and attend my first meetings in New York with Macy’s. We are blessed to now be in retailers such as Macy’s, Bed Bath &amp; Beyond, and Dillard’s, as well as smaller home stores and boutiques.  Since then, it has been an amazing journey of living boldly, pushing myself through obstacles, and passionately working to make an impact in the world. It’s hard to narrow down just one thing that inspires me to keep going. As a mother of two girls, my first priority is showing them that they can do anything they dream of and encouraging them to always be passionate about what they are doing in life.  Additionally, my interactions with people I have met traveling the world are what have inspired me to give back. I don’t go a single day without thinking about the life-changing sights I have seen and cultures I have been immersed in. I look at every moment as an opportunity to create, inspire, and explore, and the culture of my company embraces each opportunity.
