This month it's a great pleasure to usher in to the Gated lair, one of a kind, Paul Rimbaud. Following on from nearly a decade performing along Spain's Costa Del Sol as Elvis² (Elvis Costello songs sung in the style of Elvis Presley), Paul finally hung up his blue suede shoes after succumbing to the same predilections as the king himself, namely pills and cheeseburgers.Cleaning up after a spell in the priory, he got himself sober, a lithium prescription and turned back to his one true love, the rave, turning his full attention to his own record label, Distant Worlds and, more recently, The Imaginary Museum. He holds down a monthly show on AAJA music and occasionally DJs out but very sparingly as he likes to get a good night's sleep these days. For Gated, Paul has provided us with the finest in 90s Techno oozing all over the proverbial carpet. The Distant Worlds label boss Paul Rimbaud is back! After his amazing mix for Avenue Red Podcast 104, here he returns to reawaken the dormant Avenue Red 1210 series, where a DJ plays 12 records that are 10+ years old... But being a right dodgy South London geezer he broke the rules and smuggled an extra 7 records into this one! :DIn this 1210 selection, Paul digs way back into the 90's ravey, trancey parts of his record collection as he delivers a perfect package that captures the true essence of this corner of dance music history."I seem to remember recording this mix after a few Discogs binges of cheap 90's records, although there is some old faves from the collection there too. I think nearly all these tunes should still be available on Discogs for pennies too. The idea is of old forgotten guilty pleasures, tunes that people haven't dared to play out in years but all had their moments in time; a bit of rave, proto trance, progressive house etc. Let's face it - it's gonna be audio bovril but I hope it should reignite a few memories in the lucky few of happy, carefree times!PS. Since this mix was recorded there's definitely been a bit of an influx of that trancey, ravey sound flooding across the dance floor. See kids, everything goes in circles, the good and the bad. Avenue Red 1210 Mk9 - Paul Rimbaud

The 104th Avenue Red Podcast comes from Paul Rimbaud, a true deep house/techno/electro collector and DJ from Blackheath, South London.In the summer of last year, Paul was busily setting up his own Distant Worlds label, launching with the "Renegade EP" coming from that ever-increasingly prolific analog synth warrior from Sheffield, John Shima. We are told the label will be sure to feature more works from friends of Avenue Red in the coming months so keep a look out!Here Mr. Rimbaud lays down a stellar, driving mix of magical, shiny techno &amp; electro sounds that give us a looking glass into his unique, intricate vision for this promising-looking young label."I started buying records in 1992 and haven't stopped since. I schooled myself in the hardcore/jungle techno scene and discovered the techno scene through that, searching out the originals of the tunes that were being sampled by the likes of LTJ Bukem and DJ Crystl. The thread that held these genres together for me were the soundscapes. The emotion/dread/foreboding/elation that can be transmitted through pads and synths, through these little machines becomes transcendent. Often based around basic melodies, aligned with simple chord progressions, the whole becomes greater than the sum of it's parts.For this mix I wanted to concentrate specifically on the sounds of the synths, the pads and atmospherics; the way they would layer and interact with each other as opposed to any kind of rhythmic theme. As such, there are tracks from both sides of the millennium featured, many personal favourites amongst them. I really hope you enjoy listening.Recorded with an audience of one (the cat) in Blackheath, South London on a Thursday afternoon in October."
