Arlene found her voice at the age of five when she received her first guitar. Music has been her passion ever since. Growing up in a little farmhouse in rural Lanark, Ontario, she spent all her free time singing, playing guitar and writing songs. The middle of three girls, Arlene would often lead family jam sessions with songs rooted in traditional country and Christian music.By the age of 18, Arlene was touring with her band throughout Ontario and Quebec, and was one of the Ottawa Valley’s most loved female vocalists. She had the honour of opening shows for many Grand Ole Opry stars, including Johnny Duncan, Stonewall Jackson, Charlie Walker, Tommy Cash and whispering Bill Anderson. The support and advice from these country music legends influenced Arlene to pursue a full-time career as a recording and performing artist.After opening a show for Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee, Bobby Helms, Arlene captured the attention of a management team that helped take her artistry to another level. She starting training with Robin Wiley, a Nashville vocal coach who had worked with major talents, including Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and two-time Juno award winner Colleen Peterson.Arlene’s hard work had started to pay off and she continued to open shows for many American and Canadian country music legends. She shared the stage with Lorrie Morgan, Terri Clark, Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Faron Young, Jeannie Seeley, Tammy Wynette, Patricia Conroy, Dallas Harms, Anita Perras, Family Brown, Blue Rodeo, Carol Baker, Colleen Peterson, and Gordie Tapp.In 2001, Arlene hit the studio to record her debut CD entitled “No Doubt”. Her title track and first single received extensive airplay across Canada and Europe. Her dream of becoming a recording and performing artist was becoming a reality.Then everything changed. She started not feeling well. Her body hurt and she was always tired. This would eventually turn into three years of doctors and tests before she was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a disorder that causes chronic pain and fatigue. She was forced to take time off from her music career to tend to her health.With the support of her family, friends and fans, Arlene slowly started to find ways to cope with her fibromyalgia. Throughout this difficult time, she refused to let it define her or hold her back from her dreams. Arlene returned to the heart of what always made her happy – singing and song writing. Sitting at home picking out songs on the guitar, Arlene started to find her voice and her passion all over again.In 2005, Arlene and her husband, Barry, welcomed their son, Brayden. Arlene loved being a full-time mother and spent the next few years just being Brayden’s mom. It was during this time that she really started to understand the value of music therapy. It had always helped her and she started thinking she could use her talent to help other people too.She started singing for people who were ill, elderly, or had developmental challenges. And she saw them light up when she sang. She saw first-hand how she could use her voice to make other people happy. The power of music was pulling Arlene back to performing again.Fast forward to 2015 and Arlene is more than ready to re-enter the Canadian country music scene. Her brand new up-beat single, “Nowhere To Go But Up”, was co-written with her friend and fellow Canadian recording artist, Brea Lawrenson. Working with the finest musicians from Nashville, the overall production and song writing on this single are first class.From her humble roots in rural Ontario, to the illness that almost stole her joy, to the amazing life she has built with her son and husband, Arlene continues to inspire others to rise above adversity and pursue their dreams.
