Mandy Stobo is a Canadian artist and the creator of Bad Portraits. A Bad Portrait is a sharpie and watercolor painting that sort of resembles the people who pose for them. Mandy came up with the idea for Bad Portraits as she was healing from an abusive marriage in a small mountain town. During the month that Twitter launched Mandy was inspired by the profile photos that everyone used in their profiles. So she began making quick paintings of the people she admired and sending them to them directly with the caption “Bad Portrait bomb!” Since then Mandy has painted more than 50,000 Bad Portraits.She embraces positivity and joy as her way of life. She shares her ikigai (life’s worth) with others through art and inspiration.

Unfortunately she experienced severe trauma in her youth.  At a young age she became a struggling single mother with (in her own words) no employable skills other than her ability to create art. With her young son, Jack in tow, she set out to build a career and a life they could be proud of.
