Carrie grew up in Kansas City, and graduated from Oak Park High school. After received her Bachelor of Sciences in Business Administration degree at Truman State University, she began a 20 year career (and counting!) at Commerce Bank. She was a senior advisor and relationship manager in the Commerce Trust Company, providing fiduciary and trust administrative services to foundations and endowments. In 2014, Carrie joined the Charitable Trusts &amp; Foundations group, where she serves as the assistant director and a program officer. In this role, she builds relationships with local nonprofits to assist with discretionary grant making for several private foundations and charitable trusts. In the community, Carrie proudly served on the board of HappyBottoms for 8 years, and is on the finance committee of Crossroads Charter Schools. She is also past president of Mid-America Charitable Gift planners, and immediate past chair of the Park Hill Christian Church Endowment Trustees. Black Americans are imprisoned at a higher rate than whites. Drugs are used at the same rate for all races but blacks are incarcerated at the highest rate.The New Jim Crow Classes: Tracks can range from a weekend to a 6 week program.Based on six chapters of Michelle Alexander's,  The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, each chapter takes you through the different pieces that have been put together to make mass incarceration effective in a way as Michelle puts it, at making a co-class of citizens you don't have to care about.The impact: People are shocked! The way Michelle Alexander connects the dots, we see over time the slow erosion of our civil rights...New Jim Crow resource Smart Church (quick summary)The term Smart Church developed from the reference to the family system theory. It's about creating healthy congregations by implementing congregational systems.Goals can include bringing cohesiveness and communication. The benefit can be greater member retention.People naturally avoid conflict. If members leave, sometimes the conflict can stay.There are many congregations that may need this without realizing it.
