Queensland’s Women’s Week is about recognising and celebrating our diverse community of strong women and the unique contributions they make in our communities. So, to acknowledge this week-long celebration (which started on March 6 – day two of the showcase), we held a dedicated plenary session with some of the best female-led projects in Queensland!The second Women in Healthcare presenter was Adjunct Associate Professor Leanne Stone, who is the Director of Nursing for the Division of Cancer in Metro South Hospital and Health Service. Leanne is leading the research and build of an electronic Actionable Patient Perspective or eAPP that will inform Patient Reported Experience Measures or PREMs.PREMs ideally capture hospital performance in six domains advocated by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), ranging from respect for patient needs and preferences, care coordination, physical and emotional support, and the involvement of significant others.The Patient-reported Experience-Cancer (PRE-C) instrument was developed to capture these variables in the cancer service and inform responsive health service delivery. Leanne’s team tested the instrument across all streams of cancer care by embedding it into the Integrated Electronic Medical Record or ieMR. Using PREMs to create electronic actionable patient perspectives | Leanne Stone, Metro South Hospital and Health Service

I was joined in  the studio by the truly  inspirational Rodney and Leanne Stone.  Rod shared his story of addiction and near death experience.  A story of sadness, challenge and finally hope!  We discussed how easy addiction is to take hold and how difficult it can be to overcome, even when your body is giving up.  How adversity has given them both purpose and strength to help 1000's of other people struggling with addiction.  Rod continues to share his story  with the support he and Leanne provide through the  'Your Choice' service, and also by the exceptional book he wrote detailing his life so far.  If anybody is struggling, this is a must listen show.

Leanne Stone is a former third grade teacher in Charlotte, NC who taught through Teach for America. Like most new teachers, Leanne found herself overwhelmed by the responsibilities and costs of creating new classroom materials and began to explore online materials to help her prepare for class. Leanne now coaches hundreds of teachers and school administrators through Teachers Pay Teachers, an online hub for teacher-authored resources.
