Luisa Ruge, an animal center designer who is passionate about animals, joins us to talk about the future of art, animal's place in society, and how she can improve their wellbeing as a designer.   Luisa says: “As a designer, you do have a responsibility to be very purposeful in how you use design to change the world.”  “It [Animal Centered Design] is a more focused approach to considering the animal as a legitimate user of products and services, which they are, and designing based upon that.”  “The Animal Centered Design approach raises awareness and contextualizes how our interactions with animals happen.”  “Our vision was to increase dogs’ wellbeing by empowering pet partners to make better decisions on their behalf throughout their lives.”

Co-founded by Patrick Opie and Luisa Ruge, Pocket Scout is an app that aims to help dogs improve their well-being by empowering their human parents to make smarter decisions on their behalf. Their mission is to improve dog wellbeing by empowering their human counterparts to make smarter decisions on their behalf. They help validate decisions prior to purchasing a product or scheduling service for your dog.

She has lived and worked in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Australia. Her mission lies in establishing the field of animal-centred design (ACD) with the aim to legitimize animals as users of products and services and develop exceptional animal-centric user experiences. She is director of TP Research (freelance research and project management), Creative Director of PPA (virtual assistance and business growth), and a freelance journalist and editor at KWMC, as well as sitting on the Board of Trustees at the Full Circle Project at the Docklands Community Centre in Bristol. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion, specialising in working with BME [Black and Minority Ethnic] males in Britain, and aims to support the above in a qualitative and quantitative way.
