Welcome to the St. Clair College Women in STEM speaker series Podcast, brought to you by the Genesis Entrepreneurship Centre, located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This episode features Melissa Bishop-Nriagu, a professional athlete, and two-time Olympian, who took home a gold medal at the Pan American games in 2015 and a silver at the 2015 world championships.  She is is the Canadian National record holder for the women’s 800M and also competed at the 2021 summer Olympics in Tokyo.  As a competitor and in the media, she is the epitome of dedication and grace and not only an elite-level athlete but wife and mother. Melissa shares her journey of how she got into competing in track and choosing the 800-meter race, what staying in the Olympic Village is like, any rituals or routines she has when training, and much more. We’re now less than 6 weeks out from the start of the Tokyo Olympics, and Athletics Canada is poised to send a bigger team this year than in almost any other Olympics of the last 2 decades. Our depth is incredible and our athletes have stepped up brilliantly under the challenging conditions of the last year. Over the next several weeks, we will be sitting down with some of our country’s best runners who are, in all likelihood, Tokyo-bound. Each episode will focus on a different event group and sex category.
