My guest on this show is Linley Dixon back to DITD. Linley serves as a Farmer representative and   Co-Director of the Real Organic Project. Linley owns a vegetable farm (marketing through a CSA, farm to school, and at farmers markets) in Durango, Colorado, with her husband and daughter. She holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from the University of Florida.

My guest on Digging in the Dirt is Linley Dixon a Colorado organic farmer with a Ph.D. in plant pathology and co-director of the Real Organic Project. The project is family farmer-driven and embraces centuries-old organic farming practices along with new scientific knowledge of ecological farming. Healthy soil equals healthy crops and livestock, which equals healthy people and a healthy climate. We'll be talking about their upcoming online seminar Milk &amp; Money -- a discussion on the state of the organic milk industry in the U.S.

Episode 5 : What is ”real organic”? With Linley Dixon of the Real Organic Project

Dr. Sina McCullough and Dr. Linley Dixon discuss the current loopholes in the organic label, including: 1. An animal is still considered "pasture-raised" even if that animal never steps onto grass or pasture. The animal can be raised on a concrete slab and still be labeled as "organic." 2. Hydroponics are allowed to be certified as "organic" even though the plant never touches soil and the major hydroponic growers are feeding the plants GMO soy. Ep 7  Linley Dixon of Adobe House Farm

In August of 2010, Peter and Linley Dixon moved to Durango with their daughter Raina to start an organic farm, Adobe House Farm,  with the mission of providing year-round, pesticide free fruits and vegetables.  With help from friends and family, they built a four-season greenhouse, installed fencing, irrigation, and two hoop houses. They sold produce at the Durango Farmers Market, wholesale, and offered a 13-member CSA. Throughout the 2011-2012 winter they grew greens in the greenhouse and tunnels and sold produce to 3 local restaurants, Durango Natural Food Co-op, and to families who scheduled weekly orders.In 2015, they had expanded to the point that they hired two more employees, and were able to offer a CSA to 110 families in Durango as well as greatly expanding offerings at the Durango Farmers 19 Market and to local restaurants.THE CORNUCOPIA INSTITUTE, through research and investigations on agricultural and food issues, provides needed information to family farmers, consumers and other stakeholders in the good food movement and to the media.
