Bill welcomes author and educator Jen Knox to the show. Jen is an educator and storyteller who teaches writing, leadership, and meditation. She is also is the co-owner of Unleash Creatives. Her books include the short story collections The Glass City and After the Gazebo, and her novel-in-stories, RESOLUTIONS. Her writing has been nominated for the Pen Faulkner, The Best of the Net, and a Pushcart. Her stories have been featured in textbooks, classrooms, and both online and print publications around the world. Jen Knox is an educator and storyteller who teaches writing, leadership, and meditation. Currently a lecturer and program manager at The Ohio State University, Jen earned her BA in English from Otterbein University and her MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing and Literature from Bennington College. She coaches a limited number of writers each year. Her own books include the short story collections The Glass City (Hollywood, CA: Winner, Prize Americana for Prose), After the Gazebo (New York City, NY: Rain Mountain Press) and Resolutions (Detroit, MI: AUX Media) as well as the short workbooks Mindful Creativity and Mindful Fiction: Write a Short Story in 10 Days. Jen's fiction and essays have been published internationally in over a hundred and twenty publications.

After suffering from a series of severe panic attacks, Jen begins to explore her past.  In doing so, she becomes enamored by the mysterious nature of her family's history.  She discovers a pattern of mental health diagnoses and searches to define the cusp between her '90s working-class childhood and the trouble of adapting to a comfortable life in the suburbs.Jen attempts to reconcile with her past and the family she ran away from at age fifteen.  With humor and surprising candor, she reflects upon years of strip-dancing, alcoholism, and estrangement while maintaining impressive narrative control. This story is about identity, class, family ties, and the elusive nature of mental illness.
