In this episode I interview my good friend and colleague Dr. Kareem Kandil, MD, ND. As a researcher of medical cannabis and botanical medicine for the past decade, Dr. Kandil combines his educational background and passion for botanical medicine, focusing on industrial hemp-derived cannabinoids.Dr. Kandil began his journey into medicine as an emergency medical scribe in Houston, working alongside ER physicians during the peak of the H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic of 2009. During that time he first began his research into the safety and efficacy of medical cannabis as well as looking at vaccine injuries following the rushed Pandemrix vaccine. In 2011 he then went on to commence his medical studies at Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies, known as the Nature Island for the Caribbean. In 2012 he did his first grand rounds presentation on “The Therapeutic Potential of Cannabinoids.” During his clinical rotations at various hospital sites across the US, he researched the history of medicine in the US as well as the benefits of food, vitamins, minerals and botanicals in healing. After graduating with his medical degree (MD) in 2105, he went on to work in telemedicine for the insurance industry while shadowing a holistic medical physician who focused on treating autoimmune chronic disease conditions with lifestyle interventions. He then enrolled in the naturopathic medicine program at National University of Health Sciences 2016, graduating as salutatorian in August of 2018 with his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND). While enrolled at NUHS, Dr. Kandil did several grand rounds presentations on the therapeutic uses of cannabinoids emphasizing hemp-derived CBD.After graduating, Dr. Kandil co-founded a line of CBD supplements under Better Living Botanicals.
