Våren 1987 blev det brittiska electronic body music-bandet Nitzer Ebb erbjudna att vara förband till David Bowie. De tackade nej eftersom det var sellout. Samma höst blev de erbjudna att vara förband till Depeche Mode. De tackade nej eftersom det var sellout. Då sa deras skivbolagschef att de fick skärpa sig och Nitzer Ebb åkte ut på en turné som gav dem hundratusentals fans, däribland Fredrik Strage som inspirerades till att skaffa en ny frisyr, starta ett band, börja skriva i ett fanzine och köpa sina första Dr Martens. 30 år senare hälsar Nitzer Ebbs sångare Douglas McCarthy (som Bono en gång liknade vid Jerry Lee Lewis) på hemma hos Strage. In our first ever English episode, we have a living legend in our studio: Douglas McCarthy, legendary vocalist in Nitzer Ebb, Fixmer/McCarthy and most recently Black Line. We discuss his influences, what he was up to during Nitzer Ebb’s hiatus, and how skateboarding was behind the formation of the band. We also met up with Vile Electrodes after their gig in Stockholm and heard about their plans.

Douglas McCarthy is best known as the frontman of Nitzer Ebb. Over the past decade, he has worked closely with Terence Fixmer as “Fixmer/McCarthy”. In this episode, he speaks at length about the ups and downs of being in the music industry for 35 years, his connection to techno music, and his latest solo and collaboration projects. If you’re 18 or you’ve been living under a rock, Nitzer Ebb stormed the scene in the late 1980s with their massive album “That Total Age” which featured dance club anthems like “Join in the Chant” and “Let Your Body Learn.” Since the album’s release, these songs found their way into many DJ sets, radio stations, movies, and even a Grand Theft Auto video game.
