Naidoo is really candid when she says “our data is already everywhere. Your digital footprint is large, but that doesn’t mean you cannot expect a reasonable use of your information.” And that’s where the discussion starts. “The beautiful thing about POPI is that it gives the data subject rights.” Says Naidoo, going further to explain that privacy extends to companies – South Africa being one of only 2 countries in the world respecting the privacy of companies and treating them as data subjects. The emphasis of security teams is heavily biased on the technology aspect as this keeps the criminals out.
