The country's game development sector is going from strength to strength.The sector earned more than $203 million during the 2019 financial year - more than double it's 2017 earnings.Economic Development Minister Phil Twyford says game development is on track to being a billion-dollar-industry in New Zealand by 2025.But New Zealand Game Developers Association Chairperson Cassandra Gray says there's no reason why it couldn't happen sooner."The industry has grown on average by 39 per cent for the last six years in a row and we don't forsee that slowing down."She says there are educational programmes here to train people to work in the sector.But she says there are skill shortages at a senior level."They can nurture the juniors who are coming out of these graduate programmes and can help them to become senior talent in the industry."96 per cent of the earnings came from exports.
