'Emotions as Cultural Practices: A Challenging Perspective' by Monique Scheer.

Monique Scheer delivered her keynote lecture entitled 'Fetishizing Emotions' at the Emotions: Movement, Cultural Contact and Exchange, 1100-1800 Conference at the Freie Universität Berlin on 30 June 2016. The conference was jointly organised by The Freie University Berlin and The ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, 1100-1800.

A fascinating keynote from the Religious Materiality &amp; Emotion' symposium,  this lecture looks at how we think about agency in religious settings, how it is distributed between people’s bodies, souls, heavenly beings, and material artefacts (in a broad sense), and how this distribution is contested, including in academic discourse. Sheer argues that emotions play a special role in this process and that practice theory gives us a good framework with which to analyse it, using examples from her research among various kinds of Christians.More information here: http://historyofemotions.org.au/events/religious-materiality-and-emotion/
