Guest artist FIONA GRADY joins me to chat about her work via Jun'ichirō Tanazaki's 1933 essay 'In Praise of Shadows'. Shadowy Nuance and Colourful Movement (FIONA GRADY)

In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Fiona Grady (@fiona_grady)   Fiona Grady creates site-responsive drawings on walls, windows and floors using sequences of dispersing geometric shapes. The artworks are spatial systems composed from repeating intervals that expand in proportion or direction. The use of repetition is a means to set in place an unconscious balance or understanding, that can be interrupted by the introduction of a changeable factor. Today’s guest creates site-responsive installations on walls, windows, and floors using sequences of dispersing geometric shapes. Her practice recognizes the relationship between architecture, installation art, and decoration often referencing traditional techniques such as stained glass and fresco painting in a contemporary context. She has exhibited internationally in the past year with solo exhibitions at Brighton University and The Eye Sees in Arles, France. Her artworks have been commissioned for both public and private settings including Watts Gallery Artist's Village, Heals Flagship Store and an ident for ITV. She is also a prolific printmaker; her screenprints have been shortlisted for several prizes and most recently displayed at London Art Fair with Eagle Gallery.
