Making Ends Meet for AISH with Marie Renaud 

Whether it be for purposes of cruelty or simply an ideology gone too far, the United Conservative government in Alberta has taken aim at people with disabilities on multiple occasions, and all involving their wallet.Marie Renaud, now in her second term at the Alberta legislature in the riding of St. Albert, specifically entered politics to advocate on behalf of those people who already face barriers to their daily lives, and who are already dealing with poverty-level income. Renaud had four years with the NDP government, where she had more influence, but is now a member of the opposition as the government strips away an already thinly laid program meant to take care of people with disabilities.The Forgotten Corner is pleased to welcome Renaud to the show this week, where she tells listeners the story of how she came from growing up in Quebec to sitting in the legislature in Edmonton, as well as her thoughts on what this current government is doing to those in this province that need help more than anyone else. Episode 17: AISH — Tripped up and left behind, with Marie Renaud

Episode Summary:  Today we’re talking about building your confidence as a parent.  If you’ve read my blog post entitled “The Hardest Thing About Being a Parent,” you’ll know that I had a very hard time adjusting to all of the new things you have to learn when you become a parent.  As an overachiever in my life before kids, I was used to learning new skills and mastering them.  To put it bluntly, I was used to being GOOD at things in my life.   And one of the hardest things I had to do as a parent was realize that I was never going to be perfect at it.  Our kids change all the time and it was really disorienting to have to adapt and adjust to every new developmental stage that my child went through, especially in those early days when he was changing so FAST.  Our guest today offers some wonderful insights and 5 practical tips to build confidence, even when these little ones change the rules of the game on us.  Dr. Marie Renaud is a doctor in Clinical Psychology with 30 years of experience working in the public service in Scotland. She has particular expertise in the areas of relationships between parents and children and in fostering close relationships with babies. The focus of her work has been to collaborate with families and support them to develop and maintain the best relationships with their children. In 2011, she designed a specific program to raise awareness of the importance of the early years and the need to support parents’ well-being so that they can be truly present and available to their young children.  Most recently she has been focusing on the development of her company: Mindful Evolution, and her program: "Life with New Baby" in which she shares her passion for the wonders of child development and her commitment to parents’ well-being.
