Starting as a pilot for the US Air Force, Jerry transitioned to being a commercial pilot before being furloughed after 9/11. He turned that challenging experience into a business opportunity, becoming a sommelier and ultimately a restaurant entrepreneur. Like so many small business owners, Jerry Lasco is fighting for his family, his employees and his community during this age of COVID-19.   Forced to furlough many of the 500 workers who keep his popular Houston restaurants going, Jerry started looking for ways to help them and other hospitality workers survive.  This isn't the first time he's had to pick up the pieces and re-think how to move forward.  The last time was on 9/11 when he was an airline pilot who lost his job that day.  He's now using that grit, resilience and lessons learned to tackle this new crisis head on, leading with his humanity.Support the show

On today's edition of What's Eric Eating, Eric is joined by beverage consultant Linda Salinas to go through some of the latest news from the Houston restaurant and bar scene including the James Beard Foundation coming to Houston in March, Star Fish closing for remodeling and the name change that goes along with it, Bravery Chef Hall selecting David Cedeno to be their first tenant of it's innovative incubator bar concept, Rhotey Rotisserie closing, and whether media coverage makes or breaks a restaurant.
