Hi #smartcommunity friends! In this episode of The Smart Community Podcast I have another great chat with Beate Kubitz. Beate is a Transport Consultant and Future Mobility Researcher in the UK. I spoke to Beate in both 2020 and 2021, so I am very keen to have her back on the podcast for #mobilitymay to give us an update. In this episode Beate starts by telling us about her background as a transport consultant and her current work in mobility services, what inspired her to launch her sustainable delivery service using carbo bikes, and what a Smart Community means to her. We then discuss the importance of inclusivity in Smart Communities to enhance social mobility, as well as the benefits of both digitising transport and on demand transport, and we then discuss the impacts that changing mobility behaviour can have. Beate then talks more about her cargo bike project and how it has evolved since we last spoke, before she tells us about the work she has been doing with other towns in the UK to integrate cargo bikes. Optimising Mobility Through Digitising Transport, with Beate Kubitz

In this episode of the Smart Community Podcast, I have another great chat with Beate Kubitz, a Transport Consultant and Future Mobility Researcher in the UK. I spoke with Beate in Episode 194 about her Cargo Bike food delivery service in May 2020, and was keen to chat to her further. In this episode, Beate gives us an update on the cargo bike delivery service and what's changed since we last spoke, and what their plans are for 2021. We also discussed the data they're collecting on how many car journeys the cargo bike service is saving, which is just great to hear!Beate then tells us how she ended up in the Smart Mobility and Transport space, and we discuss why it's so helpful and important to have a range of different voices and different experiences in the Smart Community conversation. We talk about solving the wicked problem of reduced use of public transport and increased single-occupant car journeys due to social distancing, as well as the challenges of mobility and transport in regional and rural areas. Balancing Urban, Regional and Rural Smart Mobility, with Beate Kubitz

In this episode of the Smart Community Podcast, I have a great chat with Beate Kubitz, a Transport Consultant and Future Mobility Researcher in the UK. This podcast episode is another audio from the YouTube series I've been doing catching up with previous podcast guests during the pandemic. We recorded this chat in May 2020 but I'm definitely going to get Beate back on the podcast to give us all an update down the track.In this episode, Beate tells us all about her passion for transport and the way it impacts our lives, plus her interest in the innovations happening in the Mobility space. She then tells us about the Cargo Bike Delivery Service that came about out of a desire to meet demand for deliveries in the early days of the pandemic lockdown. We talk about the challenges of regular delivery models, such as vehicle access in very narrow lanes, and how the cargo bike idea was initially a crisis response to make sure people in the local community were able to access food during lockdown but has now sparked long term possibilities in terms of future mobility behaviour change and reducing reliance on private vehicle use. We discuss the volunteer model they have set up and the way it works with the local shops, as well as the changes to how we shop long term and the new business models that will be required in the future for grocers and shops, and potentially for the cargo bike delivery service too. Beate then tells us about the data she's been keeping on the delivery service, and the impact it's made not only in reducing emissions compared to a delivery van, but also the journeys people haven't made in their car to get groceries. We finish up talking a little bit about Beate's normal business and how that's changed during COVID, but we'll definitely have to have a follow up conversation to dive into that more.
