Today on The Extension Files, we’re going to learn about how K-State Research and Extension is working to help people throughout Kansas and we’re going to hear about one thing that many of us still can do for recreation – that’s working in our yards and gardens. Both of these interviews today come from another of our programs, Agriculture Today, which you can hear on several radio stations throughout Kansas at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday or you can subscribe to the podcast version at agtoday.net In the first of two interviews we have for you today, K-State’s Director for Extension, Gregg Hadley, talks with Ag Today host Eric Atkinson about the adjustments that local and state Extension operations have made as a result of the COVID-19 situation, to maintain the flow of information out to agricultural producers and other Extension stakeholders... He mentions a few of the innovative means of providing Extension services that have evolved from this. In the second interview, also from Agriculture Today. Eric talks with K-State nursery crops specialist Cheryl Boyer talks about getting home gardens going and how local garden centers are accommodating home gardeners' needs during these times of social distancing, urging gardeners to support those centers with their business. How Extension is Helping and Adapting; Tips for Getting a Garden Growing - Gregg Hadley and Cheryl Boyer

Cheryl Boyer is an associate professor of nursery crops at Kansas State University and co-founder of the Center for Rural Enterprise Engagement. Currently, Boyer has a 75% extension and 25% research appointment, and she co-teaches the course Nursery Management. Boyer is the first faculty member to hold her position at K-State, and she is eager to help increase the size of the nursery industry in Kansas. This industry is her focus for both her extension and research responsibilities. She serves the growers in Kansas as well as county horticulture extension agents through service to their Master Gardener educational programs. Her position allows Boyer to travel across the state and do what she loves most: helping people meet their business goals and solve production problems, or teaching consumers about landscaping and woody plants.
