This week we talk to Ambassador Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer, who is the Ambassador of Austria to South Africa. We reflect on key milestones in her 32 year long career particularly her African assignments. We weigh up the importance of women in the workforce as meaningful contributors to their national economies. We consider that the basis of equality between the genders starts off with equal chances commencing with primary education. However to promulgate equality gender roles need to transform, there must be greater co-operation amongst men to participate in gender equality initiatives and more stringent implementation of the numerous pieces of equality legislation that already exists.
