Welcome to Chatty Jax, Our Stories-Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Community Work Podcast Series. This is our first episode in this series, and we are thrilled to have Sharon Hapton Founder and CEO from Soup Sisters along with Robyn Joffe a volunteer since the beginning of this nonprofit organization.During this podcast episode I have a soul nourishing conversation with Sharon regarding her journey and joy with the creation and ongoing endeavors of her nonprofit organization Soup Sisters. Sharon Hampton is successful Calgary- based businesswoman, mother of two, and the founder and CEO of Soup Sisters. In 2008-2009, over the course of the year leading up to her 50th birthday, Sharon was ruminating on how to turn her heartfelt belief in the healing power of homemade soup into an action plan to help women in crisis. These unrelenting thoughts were compounded by her new status as an empty nester. She fine-tuned her ruminations into a full-blown operational plan and founded Soup Sisters. a grassroots organization that would engage thousands in a movement that delivers a “Hug in Bowl” to families in crisis. Soup Sisters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comfort to communities in need through making, sharing, and donating soup. In the past 12 years Soup Sisters and Broth Brothers has grown to 27 cities across Canada and launched into United States. During this time of COVID 19, Sharon had to rethink how the soup would continue to reach those in need but also to others who could now benefit from receiving soup during these times. She has been recognized and honored for her work with the Soup Sisters both regionally and nationally! 2016 Sharon received the Meritorious Service Medal by the Governor General of Canada on behalf of the Queen for brining honour to Canada through performing exceptional deeds.Robyn Joffe has been involved as a volunteer with Soup Sisters almost since the beginning. Robyn states “it’s a wonderful grassroots movement, where peoples time is a factor of generosity”. “Volunteers/participants come to our groups making homemade nutritious soup for vulnerable youth and women, it is really the gift that keeps on giving”. “it really is about simple pleasures”. “When vulnerable people are fed fresh vegetables and meat, with a handwritten ingredients list, they are reminded that people do care about them, that they are not alone”.Our Stories, Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Community Work podcast series is edited by Awesome People by Lisa!  www.lisaheinricks.comThe music for our podcast was created by Jarred Nicklen who is a music producer/music programmer/chill electronic instrumentalist.
