Once again, the ever-popular Teri Cook returned to join Mary Schaeffer on the AP Now podcast. This time the topic under review was Technology, Data and AP Process improvements in accounts payable. The podcast begins with a discussion of common concerns in accounts payable. Teri then goes on to share some of the traditional ways duplicate and erroneous payments were found. The host and Teri then talked about some of the common misconceptions that still abound when it comes to making duplicate payments. Teri then expanded on this issue and offered explanations as to how duplicates slip through, even when companies think they have an ironclad protection against them. She then moves on and talks about the realization that “there had to be a better way” and her mission to find a technology solution. AP Now Episode 43: Mary Schaeffer & Teri Cook Using Data for Process Improvements in AP

In this episode on the AP Now podcast, Mary Schaeffer and Teri Cook discuss the many problems associated with a manual paper expense reporting process. In this episode, Teri focuses on events that happened at a former employer. The organization was mired in paper and the problems one often encounters in a paper-based world. She began by enumerating the problems. She then shared the trigger event. In this case, the organization was not getting detailed meal receipts nor was it requiring the use of a company card. One day, a large meal receipt looked suspicious. There was no detail and it had been put through on a personal card and the receipt showed a tip added on by hand. Since it was an event with a largish number of employees, the tip may have been already included in the total. So, Teri called the establishment and asked for the detailed meal receipt. As you might imagine, they found gift cards had been added on and the employee added a tip, which did not go through on the credit card. The organization decided to automate the process.
